BOAT LAUNCH CRESCENT SHORES
There will be a paid attendant funded by the Charter Township of Long Lake to monitor activity at the Crescent Shores boat launch again this year. The funding for this position is now a part of the yearly budget of the Charter Township of Long Lake. The boat launch will be staffed on Saturdays and Sundays between Memorial and Labor Day weekends.
As in previous years, the Long Lake Association Board of Directors will conduct a roadside cleanup in both Spring and Fall. The Spring clean-up is scheduled for May 10, 2025. The Fall date has not yet been scheduled. The stretch of road covered is North Long Lake Rd. from the corner by Wheelock & Sons Welding down to Church Road near Long Lake Grocery. We urge all riparians to help us keep our roads (and lake) free of trash by disposing of it properly.
TIMBERS RECREATION AREA
As noted in Gerry’s President’s message, The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy is working in partnership with Long Lake Township to protect this incredible property. The Conservancy has successfully assisted Long Lake Township in securing $2,073,000 from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund for the purchase of the Timbers Recreation Area, formerly the Timbers Girl Scout Camp and will now begin securing donations for the remaining funds needed. Over $890,000 must be raised by June, 2014. The Timbers property is an ecologically diverse area providing a multitude of recreation opportunities. For more information or to donate, visit www/gtlc.org.
NEW FIREWORKS ORDINANCE
Long Lake Township instituted a new consumer fireworks ordinance (Ordinance 130) effective on February 20, 2013 which restricts the use of personal fireworks. The ordinance reads, “No person shall ignite, discharge, or use consumer fireworks within Long Lake Township at any time, except the day preceding, the day of, and the day after a national holiday.” Violators will be responsible for a municipal civil infraction and a fine of up to $500 per violation. Please be sure family, friends, and renters are also aware of this new ordinance.
